A whole new world! I’ve been contemplating when I was going to expand from Divine African Queens to my own personal blog “I’ll do it next year…blah blah blah”….I think today will be the day! Why not? I had an amazing day today and I wanted to share it with you guys; this was the spark that I needed to commence…
Ify Yvonne: The Essence Of A Blissful Dreamer.
So I’ve had an amazing journey through my hobby of blogging and making YouTube videos. I started doing this to document my life for my own personal archives to share with my children one day. Then it caught the attention of others and I am here today. I am grateful. I am overwhelmed. I am excited! The best part of all of this is the people I come in contact with in person or online. They motivate and inspire me to continue sharing my life and it’s ups, downs, lefts and rights.
I knew this year was going to be epic on New Years Day. I didn’t know why, but I had a deep feeling. Change. Growth. Opportunities. We get so caught up in petty stuff sometimes that we lose our mental and social grounding in life. My family has lost 2 special people this year and it really puts things into perspective on what we need to let go to be able to see ourselves, the people around us and the world.
My first official post will be dedicated to Amber.
Amber is a big fan and supporter of my YouTube channel. I held a 6,000 Subscribers Giveaway Contest on my channel. Amber didn’t win. However, she was so grateful that I gave her a little shout out and mentioned her in my video and she wrote me this email. In her email she wrote me her life story that really brought my heart into a special place. We are put on this earth to fulfill our own personal mission. I’m still unraveling my own, but I feel that I am on the right track…
Here’s Amber’s Story…
I just saw your video on YouTube and me and my sister were crying laughing so hard!! I told her that you probably hated me for blowing up your email, haha. I just wanted to let you know how much the words in your video meant to me ❤ The fact that someone as sweet as you noticed me is HUGE to me!! I didn’t even really need to win this as much as I needed to just have you say my name (not trying to sound creepy haha). But you mentioned me in your video that you like background stories, so here we go 🙂
As you know, my name is Amber lol 🙂 I am 15 years old and I have 3 sisters (ages 9, 12, and 17 years old). I am from a small town in Tennessee and my Mom struggled raising me and my sisters while working at WalMart (come to find out, my Dad was spending her pay checks on drugs……) so she decided to go back to school and get a degree in nursing. While in her 3rd pregnancy, my mom (not yet finished with college) got a job at Indian Path Medical Center as a CNA and she really struggled with balancing being a mom, working full-time, college classes, and being pregnant. She had my little sister, Emily (she’s 12 now), but ended up failing college because of the work load. Determined to succeed, my Mom re-entered college a second time and started COMPLETELY fresh. This is around the time that my Dad sobered up, so he started helping out a ton. After 4 more grueling years of Nursing School, my mom graduated in 2010 and we moved to Las Vegas in 2011 for a fresh start. We now live in a 5 bedroom house in a really, really nice neighborhood and I am lucky to go to a really amazing high school.
But….. last December my mom had a blood clot in her heart that caused a her to have a heart attack. This heart attack messed up her heart beat so that it beats irregularly (this is a live-able condition, but not safe.) If this wasn’t stressful enough, 2 days after her heart attack, my Dad got robbed of all of our Christmas presents (including 64G iPad Airs)… In order for my sisters to have a Christmas, I had to start babysitting (I was 14 years old at the time) and the money that I raised in a short time provided them gifts (note that I said them….. but I had nothing under the tree). In the next month, we got a message from my aunt telling us about my cousin who was battling severe depression to the point that she nearly ended her life multiple times. She had also refused to go to school for so long that the state was about to take her… She was on medication and also had to see a therapist. Hearing all of this was a shock to us. So without hesitation, we flew my cousin out to Las Vegas where she lived with us until school ended (about 4 months). She stopped taking her medication, stopped seeing a therapist, and PASSED 7th grade!!! She was such a happy kid and her life had really changed. She flew back to her aunt not too long after that and we hear that she’s doing great. I really think we saved her life…
Then….. we got in touch with my other uncle (not related to my cousin mentioned above) who has two sons, aged 6 and 7. My uncle could not afford a home and was living off of his friends. So without thinking twice, we took in my cousins and they are still living with us till this day. My family has helped a lot of people and been through a lot, but my mom is still struggling. She works 2 jobs as a full-time nurse and my Dad can’t do anything except be “the stay-at-home Mom” as we call him, lol. After her heart attack, I’ve still been babysitting all that I can, but still we can barely afford food (especially right now, we don’t have much).
I had a pretty rough childhood, pretty much raising myself having my mom and dad gone all the time. But it’s made me into a person I’m proud of 🙂 We still have struggles, but we always manage to get through them. I just wanted to let you know that it’s people like you who help me get through the struggles. The fact that you said my name– MY name in your video means the world to me. It makes me feel like I exist, even in such a world that makes every individual seem like a puny little thing compared that of the whole. I truly thank you for everything, especially being so kind as to sharing your amazing experiences and wisdom with the whole world, every last puny one of us 🙂
Feel free to share my story with anyone who might need to hear it ❤ But most of all, I really hope you read this, and even if you didn’t, I’ll be honored knowing that I made your phone buzz because of it 🙂 haha.
